This evening I had the pleasure of photographing the fashion runway at the Pacific Design Academy Student Showcase in downtown Victoria. It was a fantastic event with a huge turnout, plenty of energy, and an impressive display of creativity from the students.
The showcase featured a wide range of fashion designs, each bringing something unique to the runway. It was also great to see several models I’ve worked with before and connect with designers whose work I’m looking forward to exploring further when I teach fashion photography at PDA later this year.
One of the things that made the event so memorable was the runway itself. Rather than a traditional catwalk, the experience flowed through the PDA spaces, hallways, and reception areas, allowing the audience to engage with the designs in a much more immersive way. It felt original, lively, and perfectly suited to the creative atmosphere of the school.
For the evening, I set up a portrait station with a tinsel backdrop and lighting that allowed me to photograph each model and designer as they made their way through the showcase. Alongside documenting the runway, this created an opportunity for individual portraits that captured both personality and style.
The entire event had a welcoming and supportive feel. The enthusiasm from the audience, the quality of the work on display, and the dedication of the students all came together to make it a really enjoyable evening.
A selection of images from the session is included below.
If you were one of the designers or models involved in tonight’s showcase and would like access to the high-resolution image gallery, send me a message and I’ll be happy to share the folder with you.
