I had the chance to shoot the Sunday performance at the Ethno Fashion Gala here in Victoria, and it was one of those events that reminds you why you love photographing live fashion. The room was full of energy from the start, and it carried all the way through every walk, every look, and every performance.
A big shoutout to Dan Muthui, the organizer behind it all. He created an incredibly welcoming environment and kept everything running smoothly from start to finish. You could tell how much care went into the experience, and it made a huge difference for everyone involved.
The runway itself was electric. The models brought confidence and presence, and the walks were seriously fun to capture. There is something about that split second between movement and stillness that makes runway photography so addictive, and this show delivered over and over again.
The designs were bold, colourful, and full of personality. I had the chance to capture some amazing work from designers and brands including Sew Raven, Ette Designs, Eleven in Neon, Shopdeja, and Kilele Collections. Each brought something different to the runway, and that variety kept things creatively exciting the entire time.
From a photography standpoint, I focused on clean compositions, sharp timing, and capturing those in-between moments where everything aligns. Fabric movement, lighting, expression, all of it coming together in a single frame.
One of the highlights for me was connecting with the other photographers. Great energy all around, lots of laughs, and a shared passion for the craft. Kevin from Edmonton was especially inspiring. We chatted about shooting techniques, and he shared a couple of ideas I am already looking forward to using in future runway sessions.
Alongside shooting photos, I also filmed each walk. Those clips will be included below, so you can experience the full runway flow, not just the still moments.
This kind of event is perfect for models, designers, and creatives who want dynamic, high-energy imagery that captures both style and presence.
Alongside shooting photos, I also filmed each walk. Rather than stacking a bunch of videos here, I’ve put together a full YouTube playlist so you can watch the entire runway flow from start to finish in one place.
The full playlist is embedded below, featuring all 11 walks from the Sunday show.
If you were part of the show or want access to your photos, feel free to reach out. Always open to collaborating on future shoots.
