I recently met up with Maxime, a model represented by Coultish Management in Victoria, for a relaxed outdoor portfolio session around the city.
The plan was simple: three looks, a walk through a few different neighbourhoods, and plenty of room to experiment. Victoria offers a great mix of locations within a relatively small area, so we were able to move between historic architecture, brick walls, landscaped spaces, and more modern urban settings without turning the shoot into a major production.
Each outfit brought a slightly different feel to the session. We started with a clean, classic look that worked well against the greenery and architecture. From there, we shifted into a more polished dress look, using the water features and downtown surroundings to add shape and texture. The final outfit had a casual editorial feel, which suited the brick buildings, sidewalks, and street-level locations.
My approach with portfolio sessions is to keep things moving while still giving each look enough time to develop. I like to offer direction without over-posing, then adjust the composition as the model settles into the location. The goal is to create variety while keeping the images natural and consistent with the person in front of the camera.
This shoot also gave me a chance to put a new lens through its paces. Walking around the city is one of my favourite ways to test new gear because every location presents a different challenge. Changing backgrounds, light, distance, and perspective quickly shows what a lens can do.
Maxime was also kind enough to pose with a new Apollo electric scooter for a few lifestyle images intended for future social content. It was an unexpected addition to the day and a lot of fun to photograph.
A selection of images from the session is included below.
Outdoor portfolio sessions like this are ideal for models, actors, and creatives who want a range of current images without everything feeling overly staged. Get in touch if your portfolio needs an update or you have a creative collaboration in mind.
