This outdoor portrait session with Molly was all about variety, movement, and making the most of Victoria’s urban character.
We spent the afternoon walking through downtown streets and alleys, keeping the shoot relaxed and letting each location guide the next set of images. Brick walls, colourful murals, narrow passageways, bold doorways, and outdoor seating areas all gave us something different to work with. The result was a gallery that feels connected, but never repetitive.
Molly brought several outfits, which helped shift the mood throughout the session. Jeans and a simple black top created a casual, confident look that worked perfectly against the brick and concrete. A black dress added a slightly more polished feel, especially around the red doors and colourful street art. The final yellow top brought a lighter, playful energy to the brighter locations.
My approach to urban shoots is to keep things moving without making the session feel rushed. I look for strong backgrounds, clean light, interesting textures, and small pockets of colour that will complement the person rather than compete with them. Some images are more posed and editorial, while others come from natural expressions between setups. That mix helps the final gallery feel genuine and versatile.
Outdoor sessions like this are ideal for models, actors, creatives, and anyone looking to update a portfolio with more personality and range. They are also a great option for people who feel more comfortable moving through a location than standing in one place for an entire session.
Most importantly, this was simply a fun shoot with good energy from start to finish. Molly was comfortable trying different ideas, and that gave us plenty of room to create portraits that feel confident, relaxed, and full of character.
