Every once in a while I get to photograph a moment that’s pure magic, and this one checked every box. Tim reached out to me from Vancouver with a plan to surprise his girlfriend Jess during a visit to Victoria. He had scouted out Oak Bay Marina, dropped me a pin, and said he’d get down on one knee the second he spotted me in the distance.
The only curveball was the weather. It was absolutely pouring. Not just a drizzle, the full West Coast experience. Jess, of course, showed up dressed beautifully, umbrella in hand, completely unaware of what was about to happen.
As soon as Tim saw me in position, he went for it. He dropped to one knee right there in the rain and asked Jess to marry him. She was shocked in the sweetest way and said yes without hesitation. I was getting drenched but it was worth every second to capture that raw, emotional moment.
After the proposal, we jumped into my Toyota and headed over to Willows Beach for a few more photos before they went off to celebrate. Even with the rain and the wind, everything came together perfectly. The weather actually gave the whole shoot a romantic, cinematic feel.
Jess and Tim were incredible to work with and I’m so grateful I got to document such a special chapter in their story. Here are a few of my favourite images from the day. ????????????
