Shooting the annual Shine Fashion Show at the Fairmont Empress is always something I look forward to, and this year was no exception.
I’ve been photographing Shine since it first started, and every year it evolves while still keeping that same strong energy that makes it special. This time around, I covered the full experience, from red carpet arrivals to behind-the-scenes moments, all the way through to the runway itself. I also captured video of the different walks, which adds another layer to how the show comes to life.
The vibe was exactly what you want from an event like this. Polished but still real. There’s always a mix of anticipation, movement, and those quick in-between moments that tell the full story. The red carpet brings out personality, backstage shows the focus and teamwork, and the runway is where everything comes together.
From a photographer’s perspective, it’s about staying ready and reading the room. You move between controlled and unpredictable environments constantly. One minute you’re framing composed portraits, the next you’re reacting to motion, lighting shifts, and split-second expressions on the runway. That balance is what makes it fun.
The people are a big part of why this event stands out. The models brought confidence and individuality to every walk, the organizers ran a tight and thoughtful production, and the Empress staff made everything feel seamless. It’s one of those events where everyone is dialed in, and it shows.
This kind of shoot is ideal for models, designers, and creatives who want strong, dynamic imagery that captures both the performance and the atmosphere of a live fashion event.
A selection of images from the session is included below. I’ll also be sharing video clips of the different runway walks to give a fuller look at how the show unfolded.
