There’s something about an evening maternity session outdoors that feels especially relaxed. For this shoot with Alex and Gauge, we spent the evening wandering through Beacon Hill Park, making use of the warm light, open fields, wooded paths, and views toward the water.
The weather could not have been better, and the whole session had an easygoing energy from the start. Alex and Gauge are always a pleasure to photograph, and their connection comes through naturally. There were plenty of laughs, quiet moments, and those little interactions that happen when people are comfortable enough to forget about the camera for a while.
That is always my goal with maternity and couples photography. I’ll give direction when it helps, especially with positioning, light, and finding flattering angles, but I don’t want the session to feel overly posed. The strongest photographs usually come somewhere in between, with enough guidance to create a great image while still leaving room for genuine expressions and personality.
Beacon Hill Park gave us a lot of variety without needing to travel far. We moved from the shade of the trees into the tall, dry grass and finished near the water. The changing backgrounds and evening light gave the gallery a nice mix of intimate portraits, playful moments, and wider environmental images.
Maternity sessions are about more than documenting how someone looks during pregnancy. They capture a very specific point in a couple’s life together, one that changes quickly and is worth remembering. An outdoor session is especially good for couples who want their photographs to feel natural, personal, and a little less formal.
