What’s the secret to getting awesome photos with models? It was just a year ago when I heard an online mentor speak about improving in photography. He said, you need to get out there and shoot, keep learning, keep making mistakes because “your next shot is your best shot”. His name is Joe Edelman and recently I wrote to him to let him know the impact that he had had on my shooting. I decided to get out there and just shoot. I set a goal of 100 models in a year and as of last weekend I had hit 182 photo shoots. That’s right 182 shoots in one year. What I can share with you is that the secret to a successful model photo shoot isn’t having the most expensive camera. I shoot with a $500 Sony camera. It isn’t about having the most expensive lens, I use two inexpensive lenses. It is about shooting and when I look back and see how my style, confidence and quality has improved over the last year I know I made the right decision. Joe kindly wrote back with some encouraging words and I am grateful for his online teachings and highly recommend that if you want to improve, shoot often 🙂
